molding pancakes and other unexpected things

I am continually surprised by the things that catch me off guard...molding pancakes in my cupboard were the culprit this morning. Now you may ask yourself, what were pancakes doing in the cupboard, and I too had that thought initially. But here, they don't make pancakes, they buy them in little cellophane packages, and I am not sure if you are supposed to put them in the toaster or the microwave.. but I have yet to see anyone eat them with syrup... more exploration of pancakes is forthcoming. So anyway, Grainne's mom had purchased pancakes for my arrival and placed them on the top shelf of my cupboard. She pointed them out, and I made a mental note that I needed to get syrup. I looked at the package to see the expiration date... 3-9-05 and I thought to myself... there are only a few foods that should have that long of a shelf life, and pancakes are not one of them... twinkes and ho hos are the first to come to mind. Anyway... I failed to get syrup the last two times at the grocery, and so the pancakes sat. This morning I was desperate for something to take with me to eat for lunch and so I pulled the pancakes off the top shelf thinking that maybe I could find butter or jam or honey... something... and what I pulled down was a package of pancakes with greenish blue sploches all over them. So, I was shocked that with such a long shelf life they were molded... and then I remembered oh yeah, I am in Belfast the month and day are switched... just one of many small adjustments that I have had to make. Needless to say... I still don't know what packages pancakes taste like.... take a trip to IHOP or Bob Evan's and have a big stack for me with oregon berry and whipped cream.. mmmmm mmmm... those aren't packaged... are they??????

Heya Steph,

Mmmmmm...moldy pancakes. I bet Homer Simpson would eat them!

Actually, pancakes sound good right now, maybe smothered in log cabin syrup, butter and lots and lots of love. Perhaps some Jimmy Dean sausage, do you prefer links or patties?

Sounds Yummy.

Was that some good Crac?

I'm just glad you figured out the date thing, i was thinking I'd have to leave you a comment explaining that. But unlike most people I deal with on a daily basis here in PA, you're actually intelligent. Go, Steph!
